NYE Party Hat

NYE Party Hat

This year has FLOWN by and in just a few days it’s going to be 2021!

Here’s a fun DIY to keep you festive and countdown to the new year!

Materials

  • Party hat template

  • Left over tinsel garland from Christmas (you could totally fringe some tissue paper if you don’t have garland)

  • Cardstock (even plain clothes gift boxes could work to trace the template on)

  • Scissors

  • Xacto Knife (optional)

  • Elastic (or thin ribbon)

  • Glue or double sided tape

  • Any extra fun embellishments (colorful paper, pom poms, glitter…)

Instructions

  1. Print the template onto cardstock, cut out the shape

  2. If you’re using a different paper, as I did with the glitter paper, trace the template then cut out

  3. Glue the papers together and fold along the lined edge

  4. Start bending the paper to make it more manageable to roll and then hot glue fold line and create the cone shape

  5. Cut two slits on either side of the hat and slide the elastic through, double knotting on the inside

  6. Now time to get creative and decorate your hat!

Using Garland:

  • To create a pom pom, roll the end of the garland a few times till you have a ball shape, hot glue the center and attach to the top of your cone.

  • For the base, measure out a piece that is long enough to go around and hot glue, making sure to keep the elastic pieces down and under the garland when attaching.

Using Fringe:

  • When attaching to your hat always remember to work from the bottom up when overlapping

As a bonus you can also make matching drink stirrers!

  • Grab some bamboo skewers and cut them to a slightly higher height than your cocktail glass

  • Roll the garland just as you did to make the pom and hot glue to top of your stick

Voila! You’re ready to ring in the New Year!

Cheers!
