Feliz Navidad
Hi Everyone,
I teamed up with Mexico in My Pocket to create this homey, warm tablescape for Christmas! Check out the photos and some tips for setting your own table this year.
I really wanted to create a table that was warm and inviting this year. My theme is rustic and I’m focusing on a red, green and white color scheme.
Due to the times, I got creative with whatever I had on hand at home, here are a few tips for using what you have but giving it a creative twist:
I didn't have a big budget this year, so for my centerpiece I used succulents and cactus that I had in my yard and throughout my house. I generally keep the plants in the plastic nursery containers, which makes them easy to reuse for different seasons/parties that I throw. For these guys, I put them in clay pots and just topped them off with sand that I gathered from the beach to give it an elevated look *I will pot my plants once they start outgrowing their container*
Decor - Try to buy large neutral pieces that you can reuse with different looks, like these taupe clay pots. When setting pieces out, always try to design things in 3’s and triangles.
I had a basic white tablecloth already from Thanksgiving so I decided to use that but once I set my centerpiece it was still missing a pop of red. I went through my linen closet and found these square placemats that my grandma gave me a while back and they did the trick! Instead of leaving them as square, I gave them a turn and made the diamond shape to give the table a bit more character.
I was still missing some drama, not like we haven’t had enough in 2020 already :P, which led me to add an overhead “centerpiece” I strung some fishing line from two trees and paper clipped fake poinsettia in between some mini piñatas that I made in my DIY class with Mexico in My Pocket.
My wood plates tied the rustic look together but I wanted some zhuzh so I paired them with a white salad plate that has a silver rim and added abuelita mugs to finish the look off.
Last but not least, I really wanted to incorporate Mexico in My Pockets muñequitas. I ended up using them as takeaways for the guests (which is always something nice for your guests to look back on) but gave them an extra purpose by holding up the place cards.
As an extra, I made a Mexican dessert board with some of my family’s favorite treats, what would you add?
(Buñuelos, Mexican Wedding Cookies, Homemade Churro Chex Mix, Conchas, Sweet Dried Oranges, Orejas, Cranberry Corn Scones with Hibiscus Cranberry Sauce [ a MUST make])
