Mama Sweatshirt

Mama Sweatshirt

Hi!

Here is a fun DIY for all of the leading ladies in your life (or yourself!). Keep scrolling to see how to make this cozy mama sweatshirt!

Materials

  • Template

  • Sweatshirt

  • Embroidery Floss

  • Embroidery Needle

  • Felt

  • Fabric Glue

  • Fabric Scissors

  • Marker

Instructions

  1. Open the font template. You then want to mirror the image so that you can’t see the trace marks. You can do this by going to your tools, as seen in photo below, and scroll down to “flip horizontal”.

  2. You can then trace your felt by either printing the lettering out — which I find a little time consuming to have to cut out OR lightly trace the felt directly on your iPad or computer screen. The felt is thick enough that the marker won’t bleed through onto the screen.

  3. Next, using fabric scissors, cute out the mirrored word.

  4. Take your sweatshirt, I suggest putting the sweater on or holding it up to you to determine the best placement for the word. You can use your embroidery needle to pin in place.

  5. Once you are happy with the placement, remove the sweatshirt and lay it down on a flat surface. Using your fabric glue, carefully lift the lettering to being gluing, being cautious to not mess with the placement. The fabric glue that I used worked almost immediately and didn’t need time to set — I was able to begin embroidery right away.

  6. Thread your needle. You will be backstitching the word to the sweatshirt (it was easiest for me to go through the collar of the sweatshirt). You can use this tutorial if you need a video of how to do the stitch.

How cute is my mama modeling hers :)

Cheers!
