Happy new year and welcome to Bourbon & Rose!

My new year's resolutions are to do something creative every day and make more connections with people—what better way to do that than to start a blog!

With everything going on in this crazy world, I feel like channeling your creativity (or as I like to call it, my "Martha" side) is a great stress reliever and allows you to focus your attention on something other than taxes, healthcare and threats of nuclear war, *GULP*!  You don’t have to be “crafty” or “artsy” to be able to create things…it just takes some brainstorming, patience and a little guidance (that's what I'm here for!).

As for the connection part, that is what I'm really looking forward to challenging myself with this year.  My favorite quote is, “An invisible thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place and circumstance."  I want to be more conscious of who's around me, who I pass in the supermarket, of who I accidentally bump into on the street or even the cool guy jamming out in his car next to me at a red light.

We will meet a lot of different people on this Earth. Some of them come into your life for a second, a season, and some for a lifetime. I believe that everything is connected, and the people you come across are meant to teach you something or make a difference; even if it is just to lend a smile.

There is so much going on, at such a fast pace, I want to experience everything, take it all in, and bring new people into my life.

How am I going to do this you ask? Good question! The first thing I'm going to do is, say 'Yes' and I invite you to join me.

Say yes to: parties, barbecues, drinks after work, baby showers, Super Bowl parties—people are always inviting us to events, yet we often say no because we’re too busy, we don’t have the energy, or it’s simply not our thing. Now, it’s time for a new response. This will allow for new friendships, stronger relationships and chance meetings.

Next is to compliment at least three people a day. It allows you to notice people more and will brighten someone else's day.

I'm up for 2018 being the year where everyone is kinder to one another—even if it means letting that guy ahead of you on the 405 in traffic.

What other ways can you connect with people or what are some small things we can do to be creative?  I'd love to hear some suggestions and if you're reading this, I hope you take time to say hi!

Cheers,

Ashlee
